Born in St. Gallen, Switzerland, in 1960, author Monica Camuglia grew up near Zurich but spent her weekends in a house on Lake Walensee surrounded by a breathtaking natural environment. Influenced by her mother, Monica developed an awareness and appreciation of the diversity and beauty of nature that she carries with her to this day; her father instilled in her a strong affinity for sports and the drive to succeed.
Over her twenty-year professional career ranging from flying for Swissair as a flight attendant to working in human resources, sales & marketing, account and project management for a number of international corporations, Monica struggled to find balance and happiness in her life. Running through life at breakneck speed, at the peak of her success Monica decided to step away from this busy lifestyle and focus on her inner wellbeing and her relationship with the rest of humanity. This journey drove her to explore psychology, philosophy and spirituality. The realization that she needed to face her personal crises and challenges head on and move through the pain in order to find inner peace and tranquility led her to a path she realized she had been traveling all her life: that of the writer. Infused with this new passion, Monica not only became an author; she also became a sensitive and wise mother, and gained a deeper empathy toward others and deeper trust in her own potential.
“I have always been fascinated by life stories and the playing out of individual destinies,” she says, “but I began writing in earnest around four years ago after a breaking point in my personal life. In some ways it was therapeutic, but it also opened doors to new understanding of life’s challenges. My work aims to entertain, inspire, and communicate the importance of looking inward as the first step to changing the course of one’s own life.”
Monica’s goal as an author is to inspire in her readers a more profound awareness of their own personal responsibility for a peaceful and balanced life. As a result of her personal journey, Monica changed her personal and professional focus to living in grace and balance: to change those things she can, accept those she cannot, and take responsibility for her actions.
Monica recently published her first book, Fallacy 2012, a gripping story in which she weaves current theories about evolution and transformation into the lives of her characters. Her upcoming novels include Maria Magdalena, a love story between an American officer posted in Afghanistan and a sensitive woman seeking inner peace that explores the concept of a just war; Jam, which follows the life of a tormented woman who becomes increasingly obsessed with protecting her daughter from her ex-husband; and The Tooth, the story of a woman who struggles to overcome profound depression caused by the loss of a loved one and her own identity.
Monica speaks German, English, Italian and French and has lived in three countries in addition to her native Switzerland: Canada, Germany and Italy. She is trained as an organizational development coach and trainer for social competence and organizational psychology, and holds a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree from the Graduate School of Business Administration Horgen, in Switzerland. She lives with her daughter near the shores of Lake Zurich.
