Fallacy 2012 Reviews

After a difficult time of my own, my husband and I went to the South of France for four weeks, which finally gave me plenty of time to read. I took several books with me, from known writers such as Dan Brown, Daniel Glattauer, Hera Lind, Arto Paasilinna, Peter Hänni, Ben Kayser, Martin Suter, Anne Gold, Franco Suppino, Nassim Taleb and yours—a wide range of good literature.  But only your book, Fallacy 2012, drew me in, from the first to the last page. I only put it aside to eat! I am looking forward to more books from Monica Camuglia! Katrin Halbenleib, Mother and frequent reader

I was deeply touched by the story of Sophia, but also impressed with the author’s ability to visualize an ideal but still realistic picture of politics and economics for the next decade. She must have done months of research, not only about the Mayan Calendar but also current events. Congratulations to Monica Camuglia for this debut novel. Waiting for more books to come. Hans Schlegel, VR-President of SARAIS Group

Fallacy 2012 is an interesting and profoundly impactful book. It describes the continuously repeating, intense emotions of an intelligent but ambivalent woman, and her growing ability and force to stay on her own track or stand up for herself. The story’s personal situations are cleverly interwoven with broader political and economic events, and point to global events that reflect the same pattern, chaos and instability. It was namely this, the characters’ personal lives and the “small” picture mixed with the “big picture”, that I found so fascinating. Fallacy 2012 drove me to read it every free minute I had. Highly recommended. Gabriele Speth, Senior Account Executive

Fallacy 2012 – a lively book about love and suffering, aligned with an undercurrent of world events, a fiction novel with an interesting hypothesis on the year 2012, with an open end. Fascinating until the last word. Fredy Fergg, Retired-President of Hokey Club Lakers

First, I’d like to say that for me personally the upcoming years are of an enormous importance concerning a transformation of consciousness of mankind and the earth. Sophia’s story has touched me because I am now going through my own development. She runs her life with all of its sorrows and joys. She is alone with her responsibility for her child, opens herself to a new relationship but doesn’t really get there. Moreover, she develops a wider understanding for the great cosmic coherence. From sadness comes empathy, from empathy new cognition, a deep feeling of complex interconnections. Sophia shows the same process in personal situations as well as in global events. What she seeks is the awareness of wholeness, as in quantum physics, and our awakening to our responsibility to change the world. A beautifully told story about transformation and evolution.  Interesting, exciting, drawn from life. I am looking forward to reading more from this author. Annemarie Mühlemann, Agent for cultural events

Monica Camuglia’s novel follows the fortunes of Sophia, a forty-something single mother who is trying to gain some control over her fractured existence. The novel takes us on a journey through her inner feelings and growing self-awareness after some radical changes in her life – she has just been acquitted of the attempted murder of the father of her child and has met Nathan, a scientist who may have discovered truths of world-shaking importance hidden in the Mayan calendar.  The novel’s scope broadens dramatically from a small Italian island to the international stage as Sophia and Nathan strive to spread the message that the Mayan calendar may not presage calamity and destruction for 2012, even as natural disasters and global unrest threaten the world. Camuglia manages to unite the personal story of a flawed but fascinating woman with events of global importance, creating a character who reassesses what is really important to her even as she realizes the dreadful consequences of basing one’s life on a fallacy.  I would certainly recommend Camuglia’s book, which is part of a trilogy whose further installments have yet to come.  She manages to combine deft characterization and an examination of a damaged but determined woman with a take on the Maya 2012 topology completely at odds with the sensationalism of a Hollywood blockbuster, although no less exciting. I look forward to reading more. Nicole Herzig, Consultant

Rarely have I been so engrossed in a book; Fallacy 2012 has engaged me in such an intense way – made me reflect for days, if not weeks. I can recommend this book to anyone looking for a story that is thrilling and profound at the same time. Well done, Ms. Camuglia! Gabriele Böhler, CEO Edicos AG, München

Fear versus trust or vice versa. God and science, humanity and divinity. That’s what this new novel, Fallacy 2012, is really about.  In the novel, when Sophia asks a friend if he believes in something, he replies: “I am not a religious person, but I want to believe that I am part of the whole, whether more or less a leaf of the Tree of Life.”  Fallacy 2012 also is a diary, written in the near future, intelligently imagined by author Monica Camuglia. Seed, germ, sprout, growth, bud, bloom, fruit: these are the seven steps of the process of birth, life and death or the seven days of Creation, say the Maya in their Calendar. Enthralling! Hans Löffler, frequent reader

The debut novel of Monica Camuglia carries the reader through a time of personal crisis. With its language simultaneously clear and reflective, the story demonstrates that every life story can be self-created with respect.  The author depicts the universal responsibility we all have to humanity and nature in general, not in a moralistic way but through a story that takes places on a solitary island.  After you read this novel, you will likely have new questions and ask for new answers. Urs Heinz Aerni, Journalist and Agent for Art & Culture

Monica Camuglia’s novel tells the story of a protagonist who, despite a pile of broken shards, decides to reboot her life, but this time from another angle—her own. The writing impresses with its even and smooth language and a storyline that gets under your skin, making you think. I am convinced that the author has based the story on some of her own life experiences, which makes the story seem authentic; and why not?  However, biographical veracity is not needed; the main thing is that we have the joy of reading a story that educates, entertains and makes you think. This first effort of Monica Camuglia fully fulfills all these criteria. I am waiting for more… Urs Kummli, Swiss Print & Publishing

In her novel “Fallacy 2012“, the author weaves the destiny of a courageous woman with important global events. It reads extraordinarily well, because she succeeds in bringing across not just the fears and doubts of Sophia (the main character), but also her courage in an absolutely credible way. You stay with the story until the last page and you don’t get disappointed. A real “page turner”. Anne Rüffer, Swiss Publisher

Fallacy 2012 deals with diverse but very contemporary themes. Besides describing the pain and joys of a single mother of a four-year-old girl, the author weaves in ambitiously, well-researched information about the prophecies of the Maya and their Calendar. The novel offers material that can be discussed on several levels: life, spirituality and philosophy. I gave the book to several young adults and readers, all of them were enthusiastic. I hope to read more from this new author. Vreni Korodi, Librarian

Through the combination of contemporary themes, the Mayan Calendar and the personal situations of the characters, as well as a wonderful writing style, Monica Camuglia has produced a fascinating book. It was difficult to put it aside before getting to the last page. Great. Silvia Schäfli, unknown

Although the book is entitled (Fallacy) 2012, don’t expect it to accompany the Hollywood disaster movie 2012 in any way. What you get is a little gem. Summarized, Camuglia’s book is an intellectual look at the 2012 end-of-the-world issue, wrapped up in a story about a single mother, Sophia, trying to raise her young daughter, whilst the father is trying to take her away.
For me the book has the same qualities which make Dan Brown’s novels so popular – interesting facts sprinkled into a capturing storyline. All in all, I found this book to be a pleasant read, and one from which I learned about the subject of 2012 (and incidentally I did take the book on holiday and read it on the beach!). Also I take my hat off to Richard Hall for the translation. David Clerk, England
