Author’s Statement

“I have always been fascinated by words, biographies and the playing out of individual destinies, but I began writing in earnest around five years ago on the birth of my daughter. My own child, and children in general, remain an important source of inspiration. My fiction aims to entertain, inspire, and communicate the importance of looking inwards as the first step to changing the course of one’s own life.”

“During the Easter 2009 vacation I was working on my second novel in Tuscany, Italy, when the outlines of a new story came to me in a flash.  The plot pits the “real” insights of the Mayan Calendar – a profound shift in human consciousness – against the monomaniac vision of environmental devastation and apocalypse painted by the media. The contradictory theories and mysteries surrounding the year 2012 continue to fascinate me.”

Within eight months, Monica Camuglia has successfully written and marketed a gripping story about 2012 in which she weaves current theories about evolution and transformation into the lives of her protagonists. The wafer-thin distinction between fiction and reality, fantasy and autobiography is one of the main sources of tension in the novel. The English version, translated by Richard Hall, a friend and professional translator based in Zurich, was published four months after the release of the German original.

“Publishing a book is not something you do alone. A strong inner drive, professional editors, proofreaders, translators, designers and friends all play a crucial role in crafting the final product. Naturally, I  am proud of this achievement, but above all I am grateful to the forces that motivate me and to everyone who supported me.”
